Description:

Stroll among giants and learn how foresters measure height!

“Hey Ranger, how tall is that pine tree?!” Everyone asks, but is usually answered with an UMMM… let’s finally find the important answers to a silly question!

  • Learn how to use a tangential height gauge and go hunting for the true giants of Mission Tejas.
  • After some practice with the mighty pines around the Mission, those who wish can go on a guided hike with Ranger Jared to measure and admire some of the bigger trees on the trail.
  • The hike can be anywhere from just over 1 mile to over 2 depending on how long participants want to be on the hunt. There’s plenty of contenders for champ here in our Pineywoods. Find out which tree towers over the rest of the woods!

Participants should bring, water, bug spray, appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoors, and be ready to look way, way up!

Meet at the Playground.

***Attendance to this event is open to the public and free AFTER regular day use or camping fees.
